Reservation Mixup Left is Disappointed - Oct 14, 2019
We arrived at Riad el Amine Fes around 7 PM after a long 9 hour drive from the Sahara desert. We made our reservation through hotels.com roughly two weeks in advance. At check-in we were greeted and asked our names and we told them and they confirmed by saying our last name. Somehow, even though they knew our last name without us telling them, they did not have our reservation and blamed hotels.com. They told us they did not have a room for us for 2 out of the 3 nights we booked. Since they had to have known about this prior to us arriving they should have called us and told us this so that we could have made other accommodations. This was incredibly disappointing and I was heartbroken, as I was very excited and had been looking forward to staying at this Riad el Amine on my vacation. They were, of course, apologetic but that does not change the fact that they did not have the room we paid for available. We were informed that we will be staying in a “partner” Riad down the street (called Riad Meyssane), but we were told we are allowed to come back to Riad el Amine for breakfast. I couldn’t find any information on Riad Meyssane online. Nothing in google or on Trip Advisor, but they kept saying “same, same”. It was NOT the same.Since we already paid in advance we felt stuck. We were not offered any type of refund for the downgrade for the two nights. I felt like we should have either been given a discount on staying in an empty, and clearly lesser quality hotel, or at least given a free dinner for the inconvenience and disappointment we experienced. The Riad we ended up staying in for 2 out of the 3 nights was not nearly as nice as Hotel el Amine, despite being given an upgraded room at this hotel. It was not a 5 a five star hotel and was missing many amenities that I expected when I booked Riad El Amine. We were the only guests staying in this Riad. It did not have a restaurant or pool, that we paid for with our Riad El Amine booking. The man at this Riad was very nice and friendly, though. The third night we were moved to the Riad that we actually booked and paid for. The room was an upgrade and was spectacular. (Pictures are of our 1 night at El Amine). I only wish is that we could have stayed in this Riad all three nights. Overall, I felt that we fell victim to a bait and switch technique, as they oversold their rooms. This was incredible disappointing to me. They should have called us and informed us of their mistake in advance, offered a refund/cancellation so we could have made other accommodations elsewhere.« less

Rocky Start, but Finished Well - Oct 14, 2019
After a 9 hour drive from Merzouga we were finally glad to get to this Riad. After about 5 minutes sitting they informed us that they had no room for us due to overbooking. They were going to move us to a “sister” Riad down the street. We were pretty upset about this as we had booked this specific Riad.Nothing we could do at this point though. No other ones available and it was 8pm already. The other Riad, called Meyanne was nice, but not as nice as El Amine. We were there for two nights, and then when they had an opening, they moved us to a suite in the El Amine. The suite was beautiful. Definitely what we expected from the pictures. This made up for much of the switching issue.Breakfast is free each morning. It’s very good and they serve it quickly. Usually pastries, yogurt and egg of your choice. The Riad is on the outskirts of the Medina. While good for taxis and carrying luggage, it’s a good 20min walk to the main area of the Medina and shopping. It’s on the residential side, not the touristy side, which was fine by us. We also did a longer walk to the Borj Fes Mall, about 30-40min. Or take a taxi for 20-30 DH. Straight shot and nice if you want to get away from the old city for awhile. There is a small snack shop 2 min walk and a pharmacy if needed. Though this pharmacy was the most expensive we had been to in Morocco. The highlight of this Riad is the service. Omar (with the handlebar mustache) did everything he could to accommodate us due to the overbooking. The rest of the team was great as well.« less

Beautiful private hotel. Extraordinarily service - Sep 27, 2019
It is Morocco and inside the Médina, so you can’t expect all 5’s. But this facility and its employees are SO customer focused and friendly that you would be very happy here. It is a beautiful building converted to a hotel. Immaculately clean in common areas and the staff is super attentive. We were there 3 nights and found them all to be willing to do whatever needed. We were even upgraded for the last night of our stay which wasn’t necessary. On a quiet street, very easy to get around. A few local establishments nearby. We had more than enough breakfast served to us every morning. They offer wine service in a common area or as room service. A very good choice if you are planning a visit to Fes.« less

Gorgeous ambiance - May 15, 2019
Loved our two nights here. Gorgeous building covered in ornate tiles, nicely appointed rooms. Well located at the edge of the Medina so it's not hard to find and easy to get to with luggage--but still in the Medina. We had one dinner here which was relaxing and tasty, would recommend reserving dinner in advance if possible although the chef was kind enough to accommodate us at the last minute.Mehdi A, Guest Relations Manager at Riad el Amine Fes, responded to this review Dear Sarah451985,Thank you so much for taking the time to write a comment, and such a lovely one at that.
