Excursion to Ouarzazate
Located at the gateway of the desert, Ouarzazate was founded in 1928, it was a military garison during french protectorate. The city fascinates its visitors with its absolute quietness, security and silence reign night and day. Ouarzazate features a huge number of Kasbahs and Ksours, Valleys and Oases, gorges and palm groves, lakes and rivers. One of the city’s main attractions is Taourirt Kasbah (that we will visit in our excursion), former palace of Thami El Glaoui, Pasha of Marrakech in the 19th century. It is a wonderful construction considered as one of the most beautiful in Morocco, with its adobe walls. Besides, the city of Ouarzazate would not be what it is if its cinema studios had not existed. The city succeeded to attract filmmakers and lovers of wild landscapes from all over the world. The cinema industry, which prospers here, offers an important number of jobs to the locals and inhabitants of the neighboring regions and it also creates a certain economic and commercial agitations that last a few months.
We includ in our excursion a visit to the Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou (situated in 30Km before Ouarzazate); A 'fortified city', or ksar, along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco. It is situated in Souss-Massa-Draâ on a hill along the Ounila River and has some beautiful examples of kasbahs, Aït Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and several films have been shot there, including; Lawrence of Arabia, alexander, The Mummy…
